Julia Lin

Pronouns: she/her

Julia Lin is a first-year graduate student pursuing an M.Ed. in Student Affairs. She received her B.A. in Psychological Science from UC Irvine where she also became involved with mental health initiatives on campus. Through her undergraduate experience, she discovered her passion for advocating for student well-being and the destigmatization of mental health, leading her to the graduate program she is currently enrolled in and this position with RISE! After obtaining her degree, she hopes to work at a public university’s counseling center and continue engaging in the kind of work she is involved with here at UCLA—supporting students with their mental health as they navigate college and providing them with the tools and resources to promote wellness.

Favorite self-care practices: For self-care, I love going on walks, painting, taking myself out on solo dates, reading self-help books, writing poetry, and cooking!

Fun fact: I created a beauty, health, and wellness blog in 2020 because I wanted to find a way to keep myself occupied during quarantine, and it got me interested in graphic design.

What does wellness mean to you? To me, wellness means feeling your best in various respects, such as physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—to name a few. It means being intentional about your thoughts, actions, and behaviors in order to lead a lifestyle that is conducive to happiness and health.

How do you define resilience? Resilience is the ability to bounce back after coming face-to-face with hardship. It’s persevering and pushing through tough situations, but most importantly, not allowing them to have a negative impact on you or your future. I’ve heard of resilience being likened to a muscle that people can (and do) build and strengthen, and how over time, the challenges we encounter become more manageable as we draw on and learn from our past experiences.
