Gabriel Loredo, M.ED.

he/him

Gabriel Loredo is the Community Relations and Outreach Coordinator for UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). In his role, he helps coordinate the prevention and outreach initiatives for the Counseling Center, as well as maintaining a network of community providers available for students seeking care off-campus. He earned his B.A. in History from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his M.Ed in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago.

Favorite self-care practice: I do self-care by hanging out with my family, especially spending time with my niece and nephews. Spending time with them helps me to step back from the day to day and reprioritize how I am spending my energy. Additionally, I do self-care by doing my best to always act like a tourist, taking time to enjoy LA and what it has to offer by being mindful and grateful for the experiences, rather than just going from A to B on the same routine.

Fun fact: Gabriel lived and worked on a ship for 4 months traveling to 11 different countries, 14 cities, and 4 continents.

How would you define resilience:

I define resilience as the ability to persist even when it is hard and keeping hope despite your circumstances. I feel that resilience is not an individual trait, but one based within community. If you have a good community that encourages you, allows you to be vulnerable, and cares for you then it can be easier to be resilient.

What does wellness mean to you:

Wellness is not just reactive, like when you get sick or are in crisis, there is so much to wellness before you get there. Wellness means taking inventory of how you are feeling and taking the time to ensure you are meeting your basic needs in a positive and balanced manner that is ecological to you. Overall, wellness means looking holistically at the 8 dimensions of wellness: social, emotional, spiritual/existential, environmental, financial, occupational, intellectual, and physical wellbeing.
